The state of Florida is one of the most dangerous places to drive a motorcycle. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recorded 577 motorcyclist deaths in a recent year in Florida, far more deaths than any other state in the country, including larger and higher-populated states such as California and Texas. En Español.

Helmets have always been recommended for their ability to save the lives of motorcyclists who use them. Statistics revealed that in 2012, the use of helmets saved 1,699 people who were involved in a motorcycle accident, according to the NHTSA.

Additionally, out of every 100 people who lost their lives in an accident because they did not wear a helmet, an estimated 37 of them may have survived if they had worn a helmet. Data indicates that 42% of motorcyclists who lost their lives in a traffic accident were not wearing a helmet at the time of impact.

The same NHTSA study found that in Florida, 209 people lost their lives from not wearing helmets while riding a motorcycle, and another 10 died from not wearing a helmet with the necessary requirements indicated by the United States Department of Transportation. In the state of Florida, 56% of motorcyclists who lost their lives did not use a helmet.

Across the country in 2016, an estimated 37% of drivers without helmets lost their lives and 54% of passengers also lost their lives because they were not wearing a helmet. Be careful! Your safety on a motorcycle depends a lot on the protection you wear.
